Winchester. The name could bring fear to many wizards. Nobody knew why John Winchester was so hell-bent on bringing as many of them down as he could, but he did a damned good job at it. And he raised his two boys in the profession as well. teaching them the ins and outs of how to hunt them down.
It wasn’t until Sam got the acceptance letter on his eleventh birthday that things changed. John was devastated, Dean was jealous, though he didn’t let it show. And when John gave Sam the ultimatum of family or Hogwarts, Dean gladly took Sam’s side, along with the Impala.
Though muggles aren’t traditionally allowed to be at the castle, administration had made an exception for the Winchester boys. Dean’s inwardly jealous that he isn’t the one waving a wand around, but seeing his brother’s smile makes up for everything.

Sam Winchester was raised on the road from the time he was a baby. Old rock music, late nights, gun in hands, cramped in the backseat of a Chevy Impala, he resented his life. But John was insistent on Sam killing wizards — wizards, who may or may not have been innocent, because John was still bitter over a mother Sam never knew.
Until, one day, an owl perched on the trunk and screeched at them until Sam untied the letter from its leg. It was an acceptance letter — to a wizardry school. John was furious — and eventually gave the ultimatum.
Family or magic.
Sam decided on magic — Dean followed. They didn’t think about what Dean was going to do until they got there and the teachers looked at him with confusion. They hired him as a guard, gave him a room, and let him stay. Sam couldn’t be happier — he could have both a future and his brother.
Life is good.

Dean Winchester was raised in an abnormal household, if you could even call it a household. His father, John Winchester, hunts witches and wizards. He says that one of them killed Dean’s mother, Mary, when he was just four years old. So now, he’s being raised on the road. John is teaching him and his little brother, Sam, all about how to hunt down the very things that killed his mother.
That was until Sam’s 11th birthday, when he received a very strange letter delivered by nothing other than an owl. Turns out Sam is exactly what they’d been killing their entire lives. A wizard. And he was accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This caused nothing short of a rage from their father, proposing the ultimatum of Hogwarts or family.
Of course Dean, being the devoted sibling that he was, sided with Sam. And Sam had decided that Hogwarts sounded much better than living in motel rooms for the rest of his life. So they left—to Diagon Alley, where they purchased Sam’s school things, and then to King’s Cross Station.
Issue is, Dean’s not a wizard. He’s nothing other than a plain muggle, just acting as guardian for his brother. But, with a little convincing, and a promise that he wouldn’t continue in the hunting profession, Dean was assigned a job to watch over Hogwarts, and roomy quarters inside of the castle to match.
He might be jealous that Sam’s receiving all the benefits of working with magic, but Dean can’t deny that the smiles that show on his brother’s face are all but worth dealing with this entirely new world.
